Milk Bath Sessions | Jamie Lucido Photography

Milk Bath Sessions:  Maternity and Nursing |  Jamie Lucido Photography

October is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, and Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so I thought it might be a good time to share a bright spot in a landscape filled with so many beautiful and difficult stories.   Our bodies are truly amazing, and celebrating success is an important part of our collective story as women, and as mothers.  This gorgeous mama has graciously allowed me to share a few images from our milk bath sessions:  one when she was pregnant, and one celebrating her sweet baby girl’s 6-month nursing milestone.

These types of images mean so much to both of us.  I am in support of the #normalizebreastfeeding movement, and advocate for the ability of mothers to feed their babies naturally if they are able, in whatever location they would normally eat at or sit comfortably, instead of being made to feel that they need to hide in (uncomfortable) cars and (unsanitary) bathrooms.  There is unnecessary pressure on nursing mothers to hide this healthy and natural process, and so many observers have forgotten the true purpose of our anatomy.  Seeing more mothers nurse their children is how we normalize it, and remember what breasts are actually for.  Hearing successful nursing stories is how we encourage each other through the difficulty of our commitment to breastfeed.

This beautiful nursing session was held in the privacy of their own home, but the next time you’re out and about in public, and come across a mother feeding her baby naturally- whether under cover or not- consider the gift she is giving her child.  Breast milk is nature’s liquid gold- a magical, perfect elixir of everything baby needs.  Check out these nutritional statistics, for more information.  Give her grace, and maybe a thumbs up- because YOU’RE ROCKIN’ IT, MAMA!

When this mother saw her gallery, her response was the same as my own.   In her words:  “SO.MANY.TEARS!!! Oh my goodness I can’t even find the words to explain how much these pictures mean to me. You so beautifully captured the biggest joy in my life- being able to feed my sweet babies!! This is something I hold SO dear to my heart, and I cannot wait to show these to my sweet girl when she gets older and tell her all about our breastfeeding journey. These are something I will treasure forever❤️ thank you thank you THANK YOU!! I am in love!!!”

Thank YOU, for allowing me to share such sweetness.  Congratulations on this 6-month milestone.  Rock on, mama!
