Bridal Session at the Duke Mansion
It was such a pleasure to see Kathryn and Natan gather with their family and friends last weekend and get married! I’m spending the week re-living the experience while I go through the editing process for their wedding images. (Watch for their wedding blog this Friday!) But, in the meantime, I can share a peek at Kathryn’s beautiful Bridal Session at the Duke Mansion!
Being from California myself, I must admit, I didn’t realize Bridal Sessions were a thing, until I moved to the South. The bridal portrait tradition is popular here in the Carolinas, and I’m happy about that because they are a joy! A Bridal Session about a month prior to your wedding is the perfect opportunity to have a hair and makeup trial, a trial bouquet, make sure your dress has been altered perfectly, test out your undergarments, and get comfortable in your shoes and moving around in your dress… and basically enjoy an afternoon doing all the fun parts of feeling like a Bride, without the timeline-stress of a wedding day.
When Kathryn told me she wanted to have her Bridal Session at the Duke Mansion, I was even more excited. That venue has special significance to me personally, and I LOVE how beautiful they keep the gardens. The staff and service at the Duke are exceptional, each time I visit I’m impressed with their friendliness and professionalism. We lucked out with a beautiful Spring day when everything was in bloom, and the temperature and humidity were comfortable, thanks to a heavy storm the day before. Enjoy this peek of Kathryn’s Bridal session!

I just love the bridal portrait tradition! When I was a kid I loved looking at the glamorous portrait of my Nana on her wedding day. I wish I’d done bridal portraits for myself.
What a beautiful bridal session. The Duke Mansion looks like an amazing spot for photography. Love the pops of blue in her bouquet.
She is so gorgeous. And the dress… and chandelier! Very well done bridal portrait session!
Duke Gardens are sooo beautiful. You did a wonderful job capturing these glamorous bridal portraits. And I wish we had the tradition farther up north – I’d love to shoot some pre-wedding bridal portraits!
I love this bridal session! I wish they were popular throughout the country. Like you mentioned they provide the perfect opportunity for hair and makeup test runs- and to get comfortable in front of the camera! Such a beautiful bride!
These bridal portraits are stunning! What a fun and relaxing experience to have before your wedding day. That’s so funny to hear about the differences between the west and south weddings. Can’t wait to see their full day!
What a unique color combination in her bouquet! Perfect for summer weddings with a fun pop of color.
