Charlotte Uptown Wedding: Jamie Lucido Photography
Aimee and John are a joy – I knew from the first moment I met them at the Poplar Wine Bar for our wedding consultation, that we had a lot in common and would enjoy working together. This smart, modern duo opted for a wedding day that combined their faith, their friends, and their love in ways that felt really special.
While the gentlemen got ready a few miles away, the ladies began their day at the Kimpton Tryon Park Hotel, which is one of my favorites in Uptown Charlotte. It has an amazing view of Romare Bearden Park and is right in the heart of all that the city has to offer. Max, their French Bulldog, made sure we had fun, and was certainly looking his best. 🙂
Opting for a first look just before their ceremony at South Mecklenburg Presbyterian Church allowed us to capture some great outdoor moments with the couple and their bridal party. It really is the perfect time of year for a wedding here in North Carolina- the weather was comfortable and the sun was shining all day. Pops of purple in the bouquets, perfectly matched their attire and paired well with Aimee’s amazing hair and sparkling blue eyes– she was truly glowing, and you can’t help but notice the sweet way these two nuzzle in together, so naturally.
John and Aimee wrote their own vows for the ceremony, and there were some tears and laughter during their sweet I-Do’s. Afterwards, we enjoyed creating a round of family portraits in the sanctuary with the Church’s beautiful stained glass windows in the backdrop, and then made our way to the reception at the Poplar Wine Bar.
For those of you unfamiliar with this little gem, as I was prior to meeting Aimee and John, it is really worth a visit! Located in the Fourth Ward, the Poplar is the historic Morrison House (built in 1885), turned sophisticated wine bar by owner Lucia Zapata Griffith’s gorgeous vision. Come for the delicious food, and stay for the ambiance- the main floor features four cozy rooms each with their own fireplace perfect for sipping wine, good conversation, and generally feeling like you’ve found a wonderful evening spot to be with loved ones.
From the Bride, “It was special for me to have everyone we love in one place – happy and celebrating together” Highlights during the reception included a romantic first dance, a hilarious toast from JP (the best man), John on his guitar, and a fun bubble exit! What a wonderful day with a fantastic family. Thank you so much for allowing me to preserve these wedding memories with you! Wishing you a lifetime of joy together <3 xo, Jamie
