Every year, as summer starts to wind down, families reach out to me for annual photos.  Fall family portraits are so popular, and Charlotte, NC boasts some gorgeous places for them!  I absolutely love creating both traditional and candid portraits, my sessions are a blend I call “portrait and play” with about 1/3 of our time dedicated to traditional portraits where everyone is looking at the camera, and the rest of our time for playful candid moments.  It’s the perfect mix to keep young kids interested, and to give you authentic smiles!

One of the questions families often ask, is “What should I wear?!” Get inspired with this fun slideshow, or peek at my Pinterest board for some great color palettes and examples! My favorites for photos are timeless styles, layered neutrals (blue is a neutral!), and pops of color and patterns- no matchy-matchy, but still coordinating.  Also, think of where you’d like to hang your prints in your home.  Would certain colors look better above the mantle? in the kitchen? in the family room?  These images are meant to be enjoyed every day, so plan for timeless outfits that you love to see yourself in <3

Our temperatures stay warm well into Fall, and leaves begin to change in November.  If we’re shooting in Charlotte, short sleeves and skirts are great (sweaters might be too warm, unless they’re very light!).  Be sure to reserve your session a couple months in advance, to get the exact date you’re after, as November is one of my busiest months!
